Ekaterini Eghinis (Age 81)

Ekaterini Eghinis passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at the age of 81. She lived a long life filled with love and family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, George; her two children Carlos Eghinis and Annamaria Walker Eghinis; her three grandchildren Mitchell Briggs, Katie Eghinis and Nicholas Briggs; her five sisters and her brother. Aubyn Fitzgerald Dillon (Age 90)

On Friday, February 22, 2019, of Montego Bay, Jamaica, residing in Hyattsville, Maryland, went home to be with his savior. Mr. Dillon, husband of Joan James – Dillon; father of many children and grandchildren; sibling of Joan, Harold, and Gilbert (Sonny); Also survived by many loving family members and friends. Dorothy Thompson Cannady (Age 90)

Gained her wings on Thursday, February 21, 2019, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved mother of David and Gary Cannady. Preceded in death by her mother Emma Price Thompson, father David Willard Thompson, sister Anna Mae Thompson Brown. She is survived by her sons David and Gary, her brothers Don Thompson (Linda Hagains), Jeff Thompson (Mary Spath), David Leroy Thompson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Walter Eugene Durkan (Age 86)  

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, of Silver Spring, MD. Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie Celine Durkan (nee Moen). Maria A. Uribe

Maria A. Uribe, affectionately known as “Abuelita Toña”, “Mama Toñi” and “Abuela”, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at the age of 95 years.

Maria is survived by her sisters, Herlinda and Yolanda, and her children, Marina, Elena, Jorge, and Mylene. Maria will also be fondly remembered by her fourteen grandchildren, Sandy, Sharon, Jeffrey, Bryan, Shirley, Charles, Tiana, Cristina, Chris, Francisco, Briana, Jashua, Fredy Jr. and Alexandra, as well as her numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. In addition, Maria will be lovingly received in heaven by her deceased husband, Fabricio Castro, and their deceased children, Marlene and Fredy.

Originally born in Otaré, Norte de Santander, Colombia, South America, Maria moved to the Unites States to provide a better life for her children and generations to come. She will always be remembered as a pioneer who stepped out in faith to lay a foundation on which others could build their lives.

Thank you for all your love Mama Toña, you were a blessing to us and we hold immense gratitude for all you’ve done – for all of us. Please watch over us, protect us and know your legacy will be carried on. Your beautiful spirit is now with our Lord and while you are deeply missed, there is joy in knowing we will see you again.

Maria’s family would like to thank all their family and friends for their loving support during this difficult time. May God bless you all.

MORTON LUTZKY  

On Saturday, February 16, 2019 of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of Thomasine Lutzky for 54 years; father of Allan and Andrew Lutzky. He worked for many years at the Naval Service Weapons Center in White Oak. He also taught at the University of Maryland for several years. He was a wonderful husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Interment private. Constance Amber Bell Guerra

Constance Amber Bell Guerra, 91, was peacefully called home to the Lord on February 14, 2019. A day that was fitting for a woman so full of love. She was born on October 17, 1927 in Ludlow, Massachusetts to Charlotte (Thalmedge) and Howard Wesley Bell. She was married to her devoted husband Serafim Lawrence Guerra for 74 years. Together they had eight children: Tony, Marvin (Marianne), Chuck, Larry, Connie, Melissa, Michelle (John) and Pamela (Gary). She was cherished by her 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Constance lived her life enjoying many things with the ones she loved. In her earlier years, Constance devoted her life to raising her children. She supported them throughout their years and was involved in their various activities including being a Den Mother and Cub Scout leader. She never missed a game or competition where she had the opportunity to cheer on her children. Constance spent her time serving as the Junior Girls Golf leader and played countless rounds with her ladies golf group. Her expertise in golf served her well as she even achieved a hole in one! Golf was not her only hobby. She also enjoyed playing bridge, horseback riding, and traveling the world. She was an avid reader who always followed the latest David Baldacci novels. Constance enjoyed learning different culinary techniques throughout her life. She participated in various international cooking classes and owned her own catering company. She spent many hours baking and cooking; teaching her children and grandchildren the way around the kitchen. Her particular expertise was in cooking Portuguese food for her husband. Family Sunday dinners were routine and very special. Constance was  always the queen of the annual family cookie queen contest during the holidays.  She also enjoyed many church activities including singing in the choir and participating in bible study. She served on the church council for many years as well as volunteering in the community to help underprivileged children. In her later years, she was an integral part of her daughter, Connie’s,  art business, international and domestic gift & collectible line.

Constance’s family and friends fondly remember her as a kind hearted, gentle, patient, compassionate, educated woman who loved life. Her deep blue eyes and sparkling smile filled any room she stepped into.

Peter Michael Lafen

On Wednesday, February 13, 2019, of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved husband of Caroline L. Early; father of Katherine A. Lafen (Julien Xavier) and Masha A. Lafen;  grandfather of Theodore Xavier; brother of Thomas Lafen (Deborah).  Also survived by many other loving family and friends. Peter worked in environmental lobbying, citizen activism, and community service. He served as PTA president of every school his daughters attended.
